Here is the latest news and information about the Hinsdale South High School Hornet Band.
Competitions Our first competition is THIS SATURDAY at Victor J. Andrew High School. Call time is 2pm for students. We will compete at 6:30p and will be back by approximately 8:45pm. Students will have time to visit concessions at the competition and you are more than welcome to come cheer on the band at Andrew HS. Our second will the Normal West Marching Competition (Saturday, 9/30). We are looking forward to a great season taking our show on the road!
Middle School Night Wednesday evening, September 27, 2017, we will be hosting our middle school bands for marching band night. We will rehearse from 6:30-7:15. Our middle schools will arrive around 7:15. We will have a performance of each middle school, a combined high school/middle school performance and the high school band will play their halftime. We would like every Hornet band member to report at 5:45 to dress in full uniform. We will meet on the field at 6:15 for a quick rehearsal. All family and friends are invited to hear the performances. We would love to have a large audience to welcome our middle school students. The middle school parents will be invited as well.
Honors Students are invited to audition for the honors program and auditions will occur next week during and after school. The audition materials are under the "Honors Audition Music" tab on this page. This means that students will stay in the current band or percussion rehearsal and will receive a full point extra in their GPA. There are some extra requirements, which are listed on the document toward the bottom of this page. After auditioning and being selected for the honors program, students will communicate which options they will choose from each column via Google Docs. They will also be sharing their weekly lesson sheets with us to check they are up to date on lessons. We highly encourage this wonderful opportunity to improve individual musicianship and confidence on their instrument! Forms You can find the annual required marching band forms in a PDF at the bottom of this page. Please have your student turn them in to Mrs. Baxmeyer ASAP. Without them, your student will not be able to attend band competitions, which will negatively impact your student’s grade. You may also send them via email.
Lessons We have outstanding lesson teachers here at Hinsdale South and we highly recommend lessons for all students, regardless of their ability level. Our wonderful administration and school board are great supporters of the music department. It is an invaluable opportunity for you to take advantage of the high caliber lesson teachers that have been made available to you. Lessons are very affordable, only costing you between $12-16 per 1/2 hour lesson. If you would like more information about our lesson teachers, please feel free to email or call me. Your student can just sign up for a lesson on the sheets right outside Mrs. B's office door.
Ms. Dudek: flute Ms. Pirtle: clarinet and saxophone Mr. Strauss: trumpet and French horn Mr. Torrey: low brass and jazz Mr. Graham: percussion.
Contact & Communication We have setup a Remind (formerly Remind101) for the band, which is a text-based communication system that we frequently use to send important information, reminders, or updates. We highly recommend signing up for our Remind so we can easily communicate with everyone. To sign up for the band’s Remind, text @mrmaag to 81010.
