Here is the latest news and information about the Hinsdale South High School Hornet Band.
Solo & Ensemble Solo Ensemble is quickly approaching! On Saturday, March 2nd we will be hosting our annual IHSA Solo & Ensemble contest at our school. I've attached three documents regarding the schedule. One is by entry name (alphabetically by last name) and the other is by time. Both schedules have the room number and time for the event.
For ensembles, the event name will be listed by a single member's last name Students should check the HSHS Entry List 2019 IHSA PDF to see which members are involved in that particular ensemble. For example, "Mulligan et. al" with a member size of 2 is listed as an event at 8am. In order to find out which people are in that event, Ms. Mulligan will look at the HSHS Entry List, search for the title "Mulligan et al" and find the ensemble that has two members in it. There, Ms. Mulligan can find her name as well as Ms. Fatigato listed under keyboard percussion. Please make sure you are double checking the title of the event and checking you have the correct ensemble size.
All soloists will also be asked to play scales in concert pitch, which they will transpose. The scales will be two octaves at 120 bpm and they will also be asked to play a chromatic scale in the appropriate range. For your convenience, I have spelled out all this information on Audition page of our website, which can be found here: https://www.hinsdalesouthband.com/audition-music.html. Scroll down to IHSA Scales and Chromatic (Solo & Ensemble Only) to find the appropriate information and PDF documents.
Soloists, please also make sure you are taking care of the $20 accompanist fee for Ms. Boso or Ms. Mueller. These wonderful players put in time to prepare the piano parts and carve out time in their schedule to work with all players - please make sure they are taken care of an appreciated. (Please note, if the $20 fee is an issue, don't hesitate to talk with me. We are happy to help.)
Mr. Maag and I are very excited for our students to have successful performances at contest. They've prepared for six weeks for this event and we are proud of the personal and musical growth we've witnessed since the onset of second semester. Students will not be graded on the performance the day of contest. Instead, their grade will be earned by their professionalism on the day of the event, which includes having the original copy for the judge with the measures numbered, being prepared with scales, and dressing professionally.
This event is a large undertaking and could not be possible without the help of our incredible boosters and our student workers. Students, please sign up for a time to volunteer on this sheet: Solo & Ensemble Volunteer. Parents, please consider donating your time on that Saturday. I've included information from Mary Szabo, our booster president:
